Group Subscriptions and Capitation

There is often confusion about the subscriptions, 'subs', that are paid by, or on behalf of, all members of the Scouting Organisation. The following attempts to explain why these are needed and how they are collected.

  • All Scouting Groups need funding to pay for their various running costs. These typically include:
    • Rent
    • Buildings and/or equipment insurance
    • New & replacement Group equipment [e.g. tents]
    • Award badges, etc.
    • Cost of local activities [e.g. food for events, equipment hire, etc]
    • Annual Capitation# plus the District and County contribution

The Group Executive has to decide on a local rate to cover the above expenses and normally collects these subs termly.

ANNUAL CAPITATION.

Anyone engaged on Scouting activities needs to be covered by related insurance.

All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers are members of the Scouting Organisation and have insurance cover included as part of their Annual Capitation. Warranted leaders and the District Executive are similarly covered and are funded via the Groups' and District 's overall contributions. All other adults who are members of the organisation pay annual subscriptions and are consequentially covered.  The balance of Annual Capitation is used to fund County and HQ services.
